Something’s got to change. You’ve decided this firmly,
things can’t stay the way they are and you’re going to make a move and finally
start living the life you’ve always wanted to live, you’re going to get up
early, embrace healthy habits, work out, no more
unhealthy snacks, no more bad relationships, no more lost opportunities! This
is the new you! Or at least, it will be the new you. On Monday. When you’ve
rested a bit. And also you’re in the middle of eating a pizza and what kind of
a monster throws pizza away?
A few days later, you’re lying in bed, slamming that alarm
clock with your fist for a snooze, having completely forgotten the promise that
you’ll get up early today to exercise. Oh well, maybe next Monday, then.
Forget about Mondays
The mystical place of song and merriment, the Utopia where
wine flows, where hot, naked guys feed you grapes and fan you with palm leaves,
where you look like a marble statue without an extra ounce of fat on you. Ah
yes, the ever elusive Monday and its dreamy fantasies. If you’re going to make
a change, there’s really no reason to start on a specific date, at a specific
time. As soon as you start equating “next Monday,” “tomorrow,” and similar
terms with what they basically are –
procrastination – you’ll realise that change starts now, not in some abstract
moment in the future.
Small steps instead of grandiose plans
You’ll lose weight, fall in love with a perfect guy, learn romantic French, become a fashion
designer, learn how to play the piano, and all this in a span of a year! Woah,
slow down there. Take it easy. These grand, majestic ideas are very difficult
to put into action, and if by the end of the year you don’t accomplish all that
you’ve planned, you’ll only end up disappointed and discouraged from trying
again.
They are simply unrealistic, and there’s a lot better way to
do things. Instead of a vague desire, make a solid plan, and have it rely on
very small steps. Instead of “I’ll become a slim supermodel” try “I won’t skip
my workouts at all this week.” You need to have an achievable goal in sight,
and then keep adding these little challenges as you make progress.
Self-care above all
You need to remember to love yourself, you need to remember
that you’re important and that you’re beautiful. Small beauty secrets are more than just a way to
indulge our vanity, they’re there to help our self-love thrive. Every week,
take time to exfoliate your face and put on a nourishing sheet mask.
Put argan oil in your hair and leave it on for at least an
hour before you wash your hair and style it gently. Play around with makeup,
use a luxuriously rich hand cream, spray your face with rose water to refresh
it. Cleanse and moisturize your face each day, and never forget sunscreen. If you
don’t take time for yourself, then you’ll just be stressed, tired, and unhappy.
Inspire yourself with little things
The best way to keep your goal in mind is to give yourself a
little visual. Want to slim down? Here’s what you can do: pour yourself a cup
of hot tea, start looking at cute swimwear online, and find the sexiest,
prettiest bathing suit there is. Don’t get it in the size you wear right now,
but in the size you want to reach, and then make sure to hang it up in your
bedroom. Glance at it every day, and you’ll remember what you’re working for.
Regardless of what kind of a change you want to make in your life, keep little
reminders of it all around you to inspire yourself.
Remove toxic people around you
If being around someone leaves you anxious, insecure, and
sad most of the time, then perhaps it’s time to reconsider the relationship you
have with them. Whether this is a partner, a friend, or a parent, no one has
any right to be mean and condescending, no one has any right to make you feel
unsafe, stupid, or worthless.
Read about these warning signs and work on a strategy to slowly
distance yourself from people who are dragging you down. Surround yourself with
those who genuinely care about you, who want you to succeed. Surround yourself
with achievers and positive people who are hungry for life and who love to tell
jokes and act silly.

Books open our minds. They serve as an escape
from reality, as a comfort, as a way to learn new things and expand your
horizons. Books are a way to be a wizard in a fantasy world, a supermodel from
Paris, a rich sultan from Arabia, or a poor man whose life is hard, but who
knows the value of love. You can be anything from a knight to a pauper, you can
see any corner of the world, learn anything there is to learn. Read about
people you admire, immerse yourself in a fictional world, and your heart and
mind will overflow with inspiration to be better, to do better.
Lastly, learn how to forgive yourself. If you make a plan
and stray from it, if you stumble, that’s alright. Don’t feel like all is lost
and don’t give up. Gently get back to your course and remain unrelenting.
