10 wedding details couples usually forget when planning their big day

Wedding planning can be an exciting activity by itself and we can easily get carried over with the decorations and ideation of it. When reality checks, it is a different story. Not only do we have to see if it is financially viable, but also whether the location and suppliers are on board with the ideas we have.

Nevertheless, there are a few things a lot of couples may miss or not think about it until very late.

1. Music songs for key parts of the day apart from the ceremony

When choosing our DJ and music bands for the evening party and ceremony walk, think about the music choices during some other key parts of the day. Such as your reception entrance, your last song of the day, cake cutting song etc. Make the day more filled with the music you both love. You want to feel the energy and positivity to boost your energy during these key moments. Talk to your DJ so he can suggest some songs for you.

2. Flowers for your parents

The first thing we sort out is our bridal bouquets and then our bridesmaid's bouquets or boutonniere for your best men. Don't forget to add additional boutonniere, bouquets or flower wristbands for your mom and dad as well, as they are key guests at the wedding who will be standing by your side.

3. Must have photos/video shots for a photographer and videographer

Any good photographer and videographer will have their own process, questionnaire or a meeting set up prior to your big day to talk through the timeline and expectations. However, be prepared ahead, and always think about the key shots or moments you want them to capture. Whether it will be a specific group of people you want pictures with, the specific detail of clothing or decoration you want to capture or any specific requirements you want to cherish forever. Don't expect photographers and videographers to be everywhere and at any time. Therefore, set the requirements prior otherwise you'll be disappointed that they haven't captured something you wanted.

4. Ask for help on the day

You will be so busy during the day, running around taking pictures and greetings guests, so make sure to ask your family or bridal team for help. Make sure to divide the key tasks into what you want them to help you with. Things like someone to take care of gathering gifts and cards as you do not want that laying around unattended, especially if you will be moving around the location a lot. Another thing to think about is for example if you have any own or hired decoration that you need to take care of and return after the wedding, ask someone to keep an eye on it or to put it back in the room once it is not needed.

5. Don't forget to eat during the day

Easy to say, but even easier to forget. Make sure have a big, big breakfast before you start preparing to set your day right. You'll be very busy throughout the day so don't be with an empty stomach. Make sure to drink and have a bite throughout the day as well as with guests if you can.

6. Bring your bridal emergency kit with you

A lot of things can go slightly wrong or break, so make sure to pack the essential emergency items with you for the day to make any last-minute touches and fixes. Hitched has a great list of items for every occasion. Think about safety pins, tape, tissues or a power bank.

7. Payment for vendors

Keep track of your payments and what is still outstanding. Try to settle all your balances before your wedding day so you don't have to worry about money and payments on the day. Some vendors may be even flexible and give you some day buffer after your wedding to settle the remaining payments. Make sure to discuss and agree on expectations before.

8. Include yourself in the guest count for catering

Sometimes we can easily forget to count ourselves into the final headcount, especially for catering. Thus, make sure to always include both of you in there to have the correct number and pricing.

9. Catering for your on-the-day vendors

We often forget to budget for additional items that might not directly affect us as a couple, such as food for on-the-day vendors. Make sure to count how many vendors need to stay the whole day with you there and provide them with food. Often catering companies give reduced prices for staff as well as they usually get a reduced menu. However, it is still an overhead cost towards your budgeting.

10. Have a plan B in case of a bad weather

You may have a perfect plan for your D Day, but unfortunately, we have to also consider plan B in case of bad weather. When looking for a venue, make sure to scout for locations that will have big indoor and outdoor capacity for your guests, otherwise, you'll have to rent separately a tent or come up with other alternatives.
