Everything you need to know to start planning for a wedding

If you are following me on Instagram, you might have seen some major life updates - I've got married to my best friend and soulmate in sunny Tuscany. It has been a month since our wedding now, so prepare for a collection of blog posts related to everything around weddings. From planning, and visualisation to actual execution. If you have any specific questions, feel free to comment or message me on IG and I will try to get back to all of you.

Planning a wedding was a journey itself that I'd love to share what I have done and lessons learnt. I have actually been enjoying the whole process and would love to help others bride to be!

In this first Wedding related blog post I will dedicate it to all things stationery - from invitations to on the day. This was the part where my creativity led on and we've done many fun and exciting DIY projects for the wedding.

Wedding invitations

Instead of sending out an invitation and getting RSVPs from people, we have decided to do it in the reverse way. We have sent out a digital invite with RSVP to all of our guest lists first to make sure of the number of attendees. Bear in mind that the final number will still fluctuate up until a few days or weeks before the wedding. However, based on the digital responses we knew approximately how many people are available to attend our wedding. Based on this, we have then sent out official paper invitations. I love beautiful invites. Hence I wanted to send out physical invitations to people. However, you can take it fully digitally and keep all invitations online to cut down the cost and the environment.

For our invitations, we took inspiration online and found a printing company that could have digitalised our concept inspiration and print them in letterpressed style. We then got vellum paper for these invitations, bought beautiful ribbons on Amazon, created our own wax seals and shipped these invitations in vintage green envelopes to match the wedding colour theme.

Wedding menu and name tags

We have designed and printed out our menus for the dinner reception. Our menus were very simple, yet modern. In order to save on errors and operational work to associate specific food with guests, we have printed a generic menu for everyone.

We had also leftover vellum papers from wedding invitations. Therefore we have reused these for name tags. We have cut the vellum paper into small rectangular pieces and printed guest names on it and using wax seals we have stuck it on the menu.

In an attempt to make it easier for the catering company on the day, we have used 3 different wax seal colours to determine whether that guest has chosen fish, meat or vegan/vegetarian dish. Not sure if it was useful for the catering company, but at least we had a mix and match of colours of wax seal on the menu that matched the wedding theme.

We have also printed a little Thank you note to our guests on the back of the menu, as a little sort of personal gesture to each one of the guests.

You can be as creative as you want with your on-the-day stationery. You can use existing templates that are available online, create your own designs to print them out or hire a designer to design for you.

Wedding table numbers

One of the key aspects of all of our wedding decorations is to have something that can be re-purposed. Therefore with table numbers for a dinner reception, we have opted in for a printed version of numbers in a rose gold picture frame that we have got from Wedding Star. It was a perfect idea to do it in this way, as the frames can be easily re-used.

Again we have designed the table numbers ourselves and even attempted to put gold foil on the numbers using Deco gold foil and adhesive glue.

Welcome board

A wedding welcome sign is the first thing guests will see when they arrive on your big day, so it will give an immediate hint at the style and vibe that's to come. With that in mind, we think it's a great opportunity to make a stylish first impression.

Some people have a welcome board as well as the order of the day board. However, I have decided to merge these two into one board, making it more simple and easy to move to different areas around the wedding venue as needed.

As our guests were from around the world, and some of them didn't speak English, we wanted to include visual icons as part of the order of the day to make it as self-explanatory as it can. We had our bespoke wedding sign board made at The Wedding Sign Company and it turned out to be perfect as imagined! They have turned around the design for approval so quickly! We went for a frosted acrylic board with dark green text to match our wedding colours.

Definitely go check  The Wedding Sign Company for their wide selection of on the day stationery designs or bespoke wedding sign items. Anything from welcome wedding signs, table plans, table numbers and all sorts of wedding signs you might need for your wedding.

Seating plan board

Similarly to our wedding welcome board, we have also made to order a Seating plan board from The Wedding Sign Company. Since at the time of ordering this board, we haven't had our guest seating plan finalized yet, we decided to do a little DIY and print the seating plan ourselves to stick it on later using our wax seals. We wanted something that will give us the flexibility of changing the names or seating plan whenever we needed to. Hence this was the best way of approaching this and it looked absolutely beautiful!
