Egypt travel guide

Egypt is a traveller dream for its rich ancient history and beautiful river Nile. There's so much culture and history to experience. Egypt and its ancient culture throughout the Nile have captivated and amazed travellers for centuries. From the sand-covered tombs of lost civilizations to the dusty barren desert of the Sahara, Egypt will bring out the adventurer in all of us.

The best time to visit Egypt is from October to April when the weather is warm but not too toasty. Egypt has a lot to offer. Whether you are looking for culture, desert or a chill vacation by the sea. If you want to get out the most from Egypt, I suggest at least min. of 2 week stay is a must.

CAIRO

Cairo is the capital city of Egypt and it is a very busy and hectic city. You'll most probably fly into here, even though other cities in Egypt have airports with international flights. Cairo has to offer much more beyond their famous pyramids of Giza, so make sure to spend a couple of days here before you start travelling around.

ALEXANDRIA

Alexandria is a Mediterranean port city in Egypt. The city also has Greco-Roman landmarks, old-world cafes and sandy beaches. Alexandria is the third-largest city in Egypt after Cairo and Giza, the seventh-largest city in Africa, and a major economic centre. Alexandria is also a great day trip from Cairo. Did you know that Alexandria was founded in c. 331 BC by Alexander the Great, king of Macedon and leader of the Greek League of Corinth, during his conquest of the Achaemenid Empire?

HURGHADA

Hurghada is a beach resort town stretching some 40km along Egypt’s Red Sea coast. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, endless sunsets and all-inclusive hotels, Hurghada is a popular destination for all of that. Don't expect very much from here apart from a stretch of sandy beaches and many restaurants and bars to keep visitors busy. If you are looking for a half a day or couple of hours activity, you can visit their Hurghada aquarium.

SIWA OASIS

The Siwa Oasis is an urban oasis in Egypt between the Qattara Depression and the Great Sand Sea in the Western Desert, 50 km east of the Libyan border, and 560 km from Cairo.

Siwa Oasis is still on my list to visit in Egypt, as due to the location of it, it wasn't the most convenient place for us to travel to. However, this place looks stunning and it is a must-see natural wonder for anyone looking for something more than ancient Egypt history.

Siwa Oasis is one of Egypt's most isolated settlements with about 33,000 people, mostly Berbers. It is Egypt's less travelled gem with small salty lakes, dunes and hot springs.

WHITE DESERT

White Desert National Park (also known as Sahara el Beyda) is a national park in Egypt, first established as a protected area in 2002. It is located in the Farafra depression, the main draw of which is its rock type colored from snow-white to cream. It has massive chalk rock formations that are textbook examples of ventifact and which have been created as a result of occasional sandstorm in the area. Another great place to visit while in Egypt and looking for unique landscapes.

ASWAN

Aswan is located in southern Egypt. It has a large population of Nubian people, who resettled here after their homeland was flooded by a lake. The river Nile looks especially more beautiful from this city!

EDFU TEMPLE

The Temple of Edfu is an Egyptian temple located on the west bank of the Nile in Edfu, Upper Egypt. This Ptolemaic temple, built between 237 and 57 BC, is one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Egypt. Preserved by desert sand, which filled the place after the pagan cult was banned, the temple is dedicated to Horus, the avenging son of Isis and Osiris. The best way to get here is by getting a horse carriage to get to the temple.

TEMPLE OF KOM OMBO

The Temple of Kom Ombo is an unusual double temple in the town of Kom Ombo in Aswan Governorate, Upper Egypt. It was constructed during the Ptolemaic dynasty, 180–47 BC. Some additions to it were later made during the Roman period. If you approach from the river, the soaring columns of the Great Temple of Kom Ombo rising dramatically above the Nile's bank are one of Egypt's iconic views. There's also a small crocodile mummy museum just outside of the temple.

RIVER NILE BOAT CRUISE

I would highly recommend you getting a Nile cruise whilst in Egypt. The magical trip will be unforgettable and the Nile River is part of what makes Egypt beautiful. The most popular journey by the Nile is either from Luxor to Aswan or vice versa. You will be able to visit many monuments along the way as well as to admire the beautiful nature around from your boat's upper deck.
