From beautiful scenery to free roaming animals, fascinating history to scenic coastline, there's something for everyone in the New Forest National Park.
New Forest National Park covers about 220 square miles in southern England, covering south-west Hampshire and extends into south-east Wiltshire and towards east Dorser. It is apparently one of the largest remaining pieces of open pasture land, heathland and forest in the heavily-populated south east of England. Many people might not know, but the New Forest has a beautiful stretch of coastline with beaches and water sports opportunities.
What I absolutely loved about the New Forest National Park is the beautiful ride through the forest, those small villages around and the wild ponies freely around! Especially those! Don't misunderstand me, there are many traffic-free trails popular for walks and cycling!
We visited New Forest Park during Autumn time and it was stunning. The weather might not be at the best but seeing the colours of Autumn is just stunning. Whatever the season, the New Forest is a wonderful area to explore. It is a beautiful place for walking, cycling, sports activities even taking a leisure break from a tea room or pub.
Where to see in New Forest Park
Lyndhurst
Regarded as the ‘capital of the New Forest’, Lyndhurst is a great base for exploring this National Park. Enjoy the scenic walks and cycle routes available from your front door, and indulge in a pub-stop when you need refreshments.
Beaulieu
In this small village, you can visit for example National Motor Museum, Palace House or Beaulieu Abbey.
Brockenhurst
Brockenhurst is a well connected village in the New Forest. The surrounding area offers excellent walking and cycling opportunities, and the village has a choice of cosy pubs and tea rooms.
Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway
Exbury Gardens is a garden in Hampshire, England, belonging to a branch of the Rothschild family. It is situated in the village of Exbury, just to the east of Beaulieu across the river from Bucklers Hard. A perfect place for the whole family to spend a day in.
Forest ponies
All of the ponies found in the forest are wild in the sense they can roam freely but in fact they are owned by New Forest Commoners. You can spot them anywhere around New Forest Park, just be aware that they are wild free animals, so don't try to go close to them.
