Visiting Castle Combe

Castle Combe is a small pretty village in the Cotswolds, in the North West Wiltshire. It is often referred to as the prettiest village of England. The village has a rich history and the houses are made up of the honey coloured Cotswold stone, typical for a village of this area.

Within Castle Combe you’ll find a Market Cross and St Andrew’s Church which dates from the 13th century. The church houses a faceless clock which is reputed to be one of the oldest working clocks in the country. You’ll also find a couple of pubs and a luxury hotel with a golf course within the village. Stroll through the village up until the bridge where you can have a pretty view and just relax there.

On the edge of the village is the Castle Combe Circuit where drivers have the opportunity to test out different vehicles, drive your own car or motorbike around the circuit or tackle the Rally course. There are also a host of events throughout the year at the circuit including race days for both cars and motorbikes.

How to get here?

Castle Combe is a great place for a day trip from the city or if you are around Cotswolds area. You can easily get public transport to all over The Cotswolds. You can also use public buses or trains, that connect the main towns like Bath, Chippenham and Moreton-In-Marsh. However, the easiest way to travel around Cotswolds is by hiring a car, as the village is so small that you may want to consider visiting couple places around the Cotswolds. There's a big car park just 5 minutes walk from the village, or you can park on the side of the streets if there are spaces.

Where to stay?

If you fancy spending longer than a day here, you should definitely consider a stop overnight in Castle Combe. Some places to recommend are for example The Castle Inn and Manor House Hotel and Golf Club.

When to visit?

Any season is good to visit these nice villages. In spring/summer time you can enjoy the bloomed nature and greenery space around you. Perfect for some nature walks. Nevertheless, Autumn is also a beautiful season to visit these villages to see the autumn colours shining through the village houses and nature around.

What else to see in Cotswolds?

I recommend spending a weekend or longer in Cotswolds and explore the nature and beautiful villages around. Other places to visit in Cotswolds is, for example, Bibury and its known Arlington Row, Cirencester town, Bourton-on-the-water, Lower and Upper Slaughter or Stow-on-the Wold.
