Visiting Bibury

Another picturesque village in England is Bibury, located in Cotswold. Bibury is a village and civil parish in Gloucestershire. It sits on the River Coln, a Thames tributary that rises in the same District. The River Coln flows through Bibury sandwiched between the main village street and an expanse of boggy water meadow known as Rack Isle. With Arlington Row as a backdrop, it makes one of the most picturesque scenes you will find in the Cotswolds.

Yet again, this village is small and very popular among tourists and locals who come here for a day trip. The main draw to Bibury is the historic cottages of Arlington Row (easily the most photographed sight in the Cotswolds) but there are a few other lovely attractions as well.

How to get here?

The village centre is about 8 miles northeast of Cirencester town, or about 2 hours drive from London. There are no trains in the village only buses which are infrequent. Therefore I suggest hiring a car to travel and explore the Cotswold villages and nature.

What to see here?

As mentioned, Arlington Row is the most popular attraction of Bibury. Tourists come from all over the world to see this charming, idyllic row of 14th century weaver’s cottages. It was built in the late 14th century as a wool store and converted into weavers houses in the late 17th century. It is a Grade I listed building, owned by the National Trust.

Wander along the River Coln past Arlington Row and you’ll end up at St. Mary’s Church, the main village church in Bibury. This church has been around since the 11th century and is quite beautiful with well-maintained garden around.

If you are travelling in any season to Bibury, take a walk around the village and explore the beautiful countryside.

Where to stay?

Since the village is tiny, there are not so many options in the village itself. You can check accommodations such as The Swan Inn or check for Airbnb cottages to fully experience the village life in one of those cute stoned houses.

What else to see around?

Cotswold is a beautiful area covering Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. Whether you are visiting for a day or staying for longer, make sure to visit other beautiful villages of England, such as Castle Combe, Bourton-on-the-Water. Cirencester, Stow-on-the-Wold or Lower Slaughter.
