CANTERBURY

Canterbury, a cathedral city in southeast England and was a pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. This city is not only adorable by its traditional British houses, but it also has so many histories with it. Not far from London by train or car, this city is full of charm and a great tip for a day trip, a weekend away or a stopover on your Kent road trip.

Ancient walls, originally built by the Romans, encircle its medieval centre with cobbled streets and timber-framed houses. Canterbury Cathedral, founded 597 A.D., is the headquarters of the Church of England and Anglican Communion, incorporating Gothic and Romanesque elements in its stone carvings and stained-glass windows.

Canterbury Cathedral
Canterbury Cathedral is the icon of Canterbury, it is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England. It forms part of a World Heritage Site.

St Augustine's Abbey
St Augustine's Abbey was a Benedictine monastery in Canterbury, Kent, England. The abbey was founded in 598 and functioned as a monastery until its dissolution in 1538 during the English Reformation. After the abbey's dissolution, it underwent dismantlement until 1848.

The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge
The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge is the central museum, library and art gallery of the city of Canterbury, Kent, England. It is housed in a Grade II listed building, the beautiful building is one piece of the art already.

Westgate Tower & Museum
The Westgate is a medieval gatehouse in Canterbury, Kent, England. This 60-foot high western gate of the city wall is the largest surviving city gate in England.

Westgate gardens
Pretty bloomed gardens beside the River Stour and nearby the Westgate tower. Popular for picnics and walks by locals as well as tourists.

Christ church gate
The principal gate to the cathedral located in the city center. Christ Church Gate was built at the beginning of the 16th century by the order of Prior Goldstone. 

Mercery Ln
Mercery Lane is a little street at the heart of the ancient cathedral city of Canterbury, and one of the most photographed streets in England. It leads from the city center of Canterbury to the Christ church gate and Canterbury cathedral. Now, the street is filled with small boutiques and shops.

The King's School Shop
This building is also known as Sir John Boy's House was actually the shop for the Kings School. This ordinary shop is actually unique by its exterior facade that is highlighted by the leaned windows and door.

The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales is a collection of 24 stories that runs to over 17,000 lines written in Middle English by Geoffrey Chaucer between 1387 and 1400. Apart from the Cathedral, the Canterbury Tales is also a very well known historical piece of the city.
