Ha Long Bay is a beautiful natural wonder in the northern Vietnam. The Bay is under UNESCO from 1994. It is magnificent due to almost 2,000 limestone islands and islets that cover an area of over 1,500 km square. This place covers wide range of biodiversity and is beautiful for its scenery.
If you are in North of Vietnam, make sure to visit Ha Long bay too. This is a growing area and you will see many resorts and construction sites being build in the city. The city itself doesn't have many sights to see, so make sure to book a cruise or even an overnight stays at the boat cruising around the Ha Long bay nature.
This is my second time in Ha Long bay and this time I have chosen to stay overnight on a boat and admire the view of the infinite lime stones. I have stayed on a Secret Ha Long Cruise.
This cruise trip was definitely a highlight of the trip. Not only it is something new to sleep and wake up in cute cruise cabins to the beautiful view, but also Secret Ha Long cruise have the loveliest stuff who has taken care of us non-stop.
HOW TO GET THERE
We were picked up in Hanoi by their private shuttle bus and it drive us straight to the port where we checked in and board the boat. The lovely crew have introduced us personally and welcomed us with a big smile. The whole journey takes about 3-4 hours, depending if you are stopping somewhere and which route you will go.
There are number of tours and local buses running to and from Hanoi. The safest choice is to opt in for a tour, as they do provide shuttle buses too. Otherwise, one way journey with a local van/bus should cost you around 170,000-200,000 VND.
THE ROOM/INTERIOR
I loved the cute premium room, where we had an amazing views out. The room was relatively small, but had everything you needed. Loved the small ceramic and sea shell details. The room came with a small sofa by the window to admire the beautiful views. Felt in love with this corner of the room. The wifi connection may not be the fastest and may not even reach out to your room, since wifi is available only in the lounge of the boat. Nevertheless, you won't be spending much time in a room since the whole day is pretty much full of activities and excursions.
THE FACILITIES
You have everything you need on there. From bar, 3 course meals, sunbath decks to a TV corner. The boat was well presented, clean and nicely decorated. We were lucky that during our stay we were only 4 of us on a boat, so we had so much space around to wonder around, take pictures and silently relax. Food was delicious and it is covered within your costs. The only thing you needed to pay for is for your drinks consumed on a boat. They also didn't have a snack bar or a shop on board, so do little shopping prior boarding if you like to snack.
THE ACTIVITIES
Secret Ha Long Cruise offers 2 or 3 day cruises, and within this you won't be bored. Not only you will visit beautiful caves and islands, but also you can have fun on board with cooking classes or Tai Chi sunrise class.
