Despite of my short petite height, I still love wearing baggy clothing, oversize stuff and long dresses. Anything, that can highlight my height even more. Nevertheless, I have build my strong confidence and styling tips on how to wear these clothing for petite. Long dresses or so called maxi dresses have been popular for decades now. They are so easy to wear, comfortable and suitable for many occasions.
If you are petite, take in considerations some tips to make the dress flattering on you!
1. Pick a print that is proportioned to your body or go monochrome
Go for smaller patterns and prints, otherwise it will emphasis and overwhelm your body. Avoid prints that are horizontal, as they will optically shorten you. Go for patterns that are vertical or for a solid one colour maxi dress.
2. Pick the right length
If you are petite, go for long dresses until the floor, because optically again, dresses up to ankle will shorten your legs. However, be careful not to drag the dress too much on the floor. Pick the right length for you and think of interesting cuts on the dress such as split dress or assymetrical.
3. Wear the right shoes
Avoid chunky boots or block heels. Go for soft stilettos, small heels or pointy ballerinas. Pointy shoes do always enlarge your feet and overall leg posture.
4. Avoid layering and pick accessories wisely
You don't want to make too much attention on your body. Thus, avoid layering and too many accessories. If suitable, maybe try a belt around your upper waist. It will give an illusion of longer legs.
5. Choose flattering dresses
Pick the right colour, fabric that is flowy and soft as well as a dress that would emphasis your body parts. For example, dresses that are backless, have V neck or are off shoulders. Try to emphasis femininity and silhouettes and avoid stiffness and oversize dresses, because it would drive too much attention on your body size. Avoid the feeling of the dress is wearing you rather then you are wearing the dress.
